HYPERNATURAL 2003 – 2005
On Iceland, naturally heated outdoor thermal swimming pools function as social hubs. Surrounded by the magnificent scenery of volcanic landscape, people are able to meet under controlled circumstances and enjoy the steaming hot waters together. With their eerie light, so characteristic of Astrid Kruse Jensen work, and complete absence of people, these analogue night-time photographs appear strangely alienated. As viewers, we are subjected to a visual narrative taut with notions of wonderment at the natural beauty and powers of the landscape up against the reality of the manmade artefacts we see here.
